Farmwives in Profile:
17 Women, 17 Candid Questions about their Lives, Photos & Recipes

Short documentary on Billi J. Miller and her Farmwives Book Project - by Storyhive.
Title: "In Honour of Farmwives"
17 Women, 17 Candid Questions About their Lives, Photos & Recipes is the labour-of-love and debut book of Billi J Miller capturing candid interviews, delicious straight-from-the-farm-kitchen recipes and timeless photographs of seventeen traditional farmwives from the Canadian Prairies. The women from her home community in east-central Alberta were all between the ages of fifty-five and ninety. This widely-celebrated book shines a light on what Miller calls the too often overlooked contributions of farmwives who she says have been pillars holding up Canadian family farms. This beautiful project also contains stories by the women's grown children on the impact their mothers have had on their lives. Worth it's weight in gold for just the recipes alone, this project is available through all major online retailers and through select partner small retailers also.

Book two:
Farmwives 2:
An Inspiring Look at the Lives of the New Canadian Farmwives
The highly-anticipated follow-up of her first book, this second part of the two-book series gives the "next generations" a turn. Farmwives 2 hones in on women in their twenties to fifties. This time, Miller interviews women from across the country - from British Columbia to Newfoundland - broadening not only the look at Canada's family farms but, women's perspectives on this evolving role.
Miller includes the same format of interviews, photographs and recipes, but it also includes input from a lawyer, farm family coach and financial planner that is quickly declaring it the "bible" to which all living on a farm should read.

"Equal parts laugh-out-loud funny, poignant and instructive, Farmwives 2 shows that, just as there's no right way to be a farmer, there's no right way to be a farmwife"

Blog Series: "The Women Among Us"
What is "The Women Among Us?"
Billi has continued the dialogue she started with her Farmwives Book Project by continuing to interview strong, resilient and inspiring women from all walks of life. She has created an online Blog Series called: "The Women Among Us" to capture these stories.
Join Billi as the interviews shared here create a space meant to uplift & inspire. Let these women's stories create connection - and inspire hope - among all of us.
Why was it created?
In 2010, when Billi married her husband, a 4th-generation farmer from east-central Alberta in the Canadian Prairies, she quickly became in awe of the dedicated, steadfast, yet humble women that surrounded her in the farming community. She felt called to do something to honour them. It was then that the seed to Billi’s Farmwives Book Project was planted, and she would spend six years interviewing more than forty women from Canadian family farms that would result in a heartwarming, widely-celebrated two-book series featuring candid interviews, stunning photographs, and tried and true farm kitchen recipes.
A short documentary was filmed about the project and it was during the making of that documentary, in fact, that the reality hit Billi of why she was so passionate about telling these women's stories.
Growing up, Billi's family experience was very different than the tradition, permanence and deep roots of the community she married into. Billi believes that it is more than serendipitous that she has such a passion for what she does now; exactly because of where I came from.
Billi is convinced that instead of focusing on your hardships, it is so much more powerful to celebrate the resilience within us, the beauty around us and, in facty, has found healing doing that very thing.
Join Billi in this project as she continues to provide uplifting & inspiring stories that create connection and inspire hope.
